Celebrations are in order this week. Our lovely agency, Tush Creative, is 1 years old! We are beyond proud to be one of the small businesses that make it past their first birthday.

Our days are spent telling the world how fabulous your brands are and we have been lucky enough to work with some incredibly talented and creative entrepreneurs over the past 12 months. Now it’s our turn to show off about our brand (a little) and talk about the secrets of success with your small biz (a lot). Here goes…

Know your limits

We are always realistic both for ourselves and for our clients. We don’t work with a set price structure as every brand has a different budget. Instead, we offer tailored pricing to each company, creating strategies that will enhance their inbound marketing as far as possible with the finance available.

In turn, we also know our own worth. We budget our business demands according to the essentials. Everything else can wait. When you are growing a small business from the ground up, there is no space for excess. You may want a Costa coffee with an extra shot to wake you up in the morning but the kettle in the office works just as well and it won’t eat into your budget.

With your small business, it’s essential to invest your time and finances into those things that really matter, such as sales and inbound marketing strategies. You should always invest any profits back into the company. Your own salary should be one of the lowest priorities as should any unnecessary travel or office expenses.

If you want your business to grow, you must recognise that even the smallest sacrifice will pay off in the long run. It’s all about the bigger picture and if you think that sounds crass, think again. If you’re not willing to struggle and dig deep for a while, there’s a high chance your business will never take off.

Respond to your market

Our team at Tush love fresh, exciting brands that look at the world through positive eyes. We love brands that make you look and feel good. After all, what else is life about? We love fashion, beauty, aesthetics, accessories and luxury lifestyle. We also love a bit of grit.

Our client roster reflects our passion and our talent because we know our audience. Having a clearly defined and viable target market is a crucial part of your business plan and strategy. Tush is currently blogging for luxury skincare, scarves, sandals and jewellery brands. We also do social media for a boutique law firm and blog for a Harley Street surgeon. These are all brands that we truly believe in. We recommend their products and services to our family and friends because we genuinely believe they are fabulous.

We also know that our services will boost their business and their ultimate goal to drive more direct sales. Your business should either solve problems or make your clients’ lives better.

Small biz is run on good sense and good strategy but passion is an ingredient you cannot fake. And it makes all the difference.

Be genuine

Trust is the most important part of the client relationship. This should come easy when you have created a solid business model. Tush was born out of a desire to create something real. Our founder, Olivia, comes from a magazine journalism and publishing background where everything has an agenda. She wanted to write for brands where creativity can roam free and there is no need for rules. We have built Tush on this basis and our clients recognise that we will create strong content that builds trust between their brand and their audience.

Keep talking

As a business owner, you should always have your eyes open for potential opportunity. Network as if your life depends on it and consider every single person you meet as a potential client. If they don’t represent your target demographic, perhaps their mum/partner/dog walker might. If you believe strongly enough in the value of your products or services, others will too. But you are responsible for getting the word out there. It’s not easy but it is essential.

Word of mouth is a great seller and is also boosted by online content such as blogs. Work hard to grab the attention of your client and you will be rewarded.

Final thoughts

We spend a huge amount of our lives at work, so if you have the opportunity to do something you love then grab it with both hands and hold it tight. If you can find a way to be excited when you wake up in the morning about the day ahead, do it.

We would also like to say a big thank you to every single one of our clients who has helped to make the first year of Tush Creative so exciting. We can’t wait to see what the next 12 months will bring!
